The average price of a wedding dress today is $1,211, but that
doesn’t mean there aren’t a whole bunch that cost a whole lot more. Here
are 12 of the most expensive wedding dresses. These dresses range from
$20,000, all the way up to $1.5 million. For that price, you could buy a
dress, your rings, have a fancy wedding and a brand new house.
Surprisingly, some of the dresses don’t cost as much as you think they
would for certain celebs (they must get a discount). You’ll be even more
shocked to see who bought them- lets just say some celebs spent way too
much money on their dresses and others could have shelled out a few
more bucks.
10. One Of A Kind Pnina Tornai Dress – $34,000

via:www.aboutdetailsdetails.com
Pnina Tornai is a very famous wedding dress designer who only sells
her designs at the very exclusive Kleinfeld in New York. Kleinfeld’s
might sound familiar to you if you watch the show,
Say Yes To The Dress, on TLC. Clothing designer Kelly Dooley’s dress search was featured on
the popular show, as well as a separate special about her big day.
Everything about this Pnina dress is totally different from every other
dress out there that isn’t from the planet Mars. For one thing, it’s
silver- a far cry from the traditional white. A one of a kind piece of
couture, it was originally designed for the grand finale of her runway
show in London
9. Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen – $400,000
Kate Middleton’s
wedding dress was one of the most anticipated wedding dresses this
century, and it was perfect. Designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander
McQueen, it was fit for both a princess and a fashionista. Inspired by
old Victorian corsetry, it featured machine made lace appliqués that
were hand-sewn on. Designer Mark Badgley of Badgley Mischka, described
the style of the dress best when he said “it’s the kind of gown that
will stand the test of time. Not all gowns do. Any bride across the
world will want to wear it. It’s got a touch of vintage, a classic 1950s
ball gown, so timeless that her daughter would look gorgeous in this
gown 30 years from now.” Exactly.
8. Kim Kardashian’s Givenchy Dress – $400,000
For
Kim Kardashian’s third wedding to
Kanye West, she wore a $400,000 Givenchy dress designed by Riccardo Tisci. The dress was given a glimpse on her reality show,
Keeping Up With The Kardashians
and it was same price as Princess Kate’s dress, which clearly
influenced the rather conservative (it has sleeves!) design, which (as
many of us know) isn’t typical Kim at all. The elegant lace dress had a
sheer back and long train. It was certainly not what anyone would
expect, but then again, when does Kim Kardashian not surprise us?
7. Peacock Dress By Vera Wang – $1.5 million
This is truly the most unique wedding dress ever made. Designed by
Vera Wang,
it is made of peacock feathers, for the bride who really wants to stand
out and go the non-traditional route. Designed in 2009, it’s made of
2009 male peacock feathers (apparently female peacock feathers were not
adequate for this project) to commemorate the year it was made.
Featuring a very long, round train, it’s rumored that
Jennifer Lopez was supposed to wear it to her wedding to
Ben Affleck, but those nuptials never happened. No word if she was able to get her deposit back for the dress.
6. Victoria Beckham’s Vera Wang Dress – $100,000
When she wed
David Beckham, way back in 1999,
Victoria “Posh Spice” Adams
wore a Vera Wang gown, which reportedly cost $100,000. Victoria loved
her rather timeless, structured ball-gown wedding dress so much, she
still has it in her closet, hoping that one day, her daughter Harper
will want to wear it. It’s a known fact that Mrs. Beckham gives most of
her clothing away to be auctioned off to charity, but hasn’t had the the
heart to sell off her beloved and very expensive Vera Wang gown. With a
marriage like that, who could blame her?
5. Chelsea Clinton’s Vera Wang Dress – $32,000
Former first daughter,
Chelsea Clinton was married to
Marc Mezinsky,
in 2010, in a lavish $3 million ceremony. Her dress, which was designed
by Vera Wang, is rumored to have cost approximately $32k. Luckily, the
United States government wasn’t paying for it. The dress, a strapless,
beaded gown was made of yards of ivory silk organza that had slightly
gathered with a diagonal pleat of tulle on the bodice. The beautiful
look was finished with a silvery embroidered waistband. Simple, but
elegant, Clinton who isn’t known for her great style looked quite
stylish on her wedding day.
4. Zim Zolciak’s Baracci Gown – $58,000
Former
Real Housewife of Atlanta, Zim Zolciak
married Atlanta Falcon Kroy Bierman, in 2011, wearing a very expensive
gown from Beverly Hills fashion house Baracci. This silver Duchess Satin
dress reportedly weighed 32 pounds, and was embellished with lace,
pearls, beads and Swarovski crystals. What a lot of people don’t know is
that the dress was actually not new. Kim purchased the gown from
PreownedWeddingDresses.com, but at $58,000 it wasn’t exactly a bargain.
So why did Zolciak buy secondhand? She was married a month after she was
engaged and didn’t have time to get a new one.
3. Jessica Biel’s Giambattista Valli Dress – $100,000+
via:weddinglotus.blogspot.com
Jessica Biel’s beautiful pink dress for her wedding to
Justin Timberlake,
was stunning both in looks and in price. The exact dollar amount has
not been revealed, but it’s rumored to have cost Mrs. Timberlake upwards
of six-figures. In 2013, Biel discussed the dress in an interview with
Elle magazine,
“I wanted the dress to be very romantic and feminine and a shape that
I very rarely wear. I have never been crazy about all-white wedding
dresses, for me at least. [Giambattista Valli] had created that same
fabric in a fuchsia-and-pink combination for a dress in a previous
collection, and I asked him if he could create that same pattern in a
white combination, and he suggested pink. It was a bit of a leap of
faith at the time, but it turned out better than I could have ever
imagined. [Putting it on], I felt like I had made the right choice. I
felt elegant. And it moved like a dream.”
She certainly looked like one…
2. Princess Diana’s Dress – $150,000
Princess Diana wore a legendary wedding dress for her 1981 wedding to
Prince Charles.
Designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, within hours of the wedding,
tons of other designers were ordered to copy the dress so every bride in
England and throughout the world could feel like Diana on their big day
too. The dress was made of silk taffeta and antique lace embellished
with over 1,000 pearls and sequins. The train was a stunning 25 feet
long. Also stunning, but not exactly in a good way, were the puffy
sleeves and shoulder pads (hey, it was the 80’s). The dress is estimated
to have cost what would come out to approximately $150,000 today.
1. Amal Alamuddin’s Oscar De La Renta Gown – $380,000
For her wedding to
George Clooney, Amal Alamuddin wore a stunning
Oscar De La Renta gown. So why that designer in particular? Alamuddin told
Vogue,
“George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and
I can’t imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a
dress. Meeting him made the design process all the more magical, as he
is so warm and such a gentleman.”
This off-the shoulder dress featured 14 yards of Chantilly lace
appliqués, which were embellished by hand with beading and embroidery.
